Emigration and Settlement
Many Whitworth family members born in the UK and usually baptised there fail to appear in any subsequent type of record. To some extent they are lost and the search for their "lives" goes on until they are proclaimed "dead" or "buried" in some hitherto unseen record or reference. This is a common problem with genealogical research, as it can become impossible to "kill off" an ancestor. Nothing sinister intended of course. Increasingly from the seventeenth century to the present emigration, travel and sometimes transportation can account for missing and still "alive" ancestors. The scarcity of burial records in indexed form clearly also plays a part, with such indexes as the IGI being primarily concerned with the records of baptism and marriage. The recent creation of the National Burial Index (FFHS), has contributed records of many missing Whitworth members.
I have a number of confirmed emigrations from the UK amongst my records and always welcome details of first generation settlement in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa or anywhere else in the world that it might occur. The subsequent delight experienced by all parties in discovering long distance connections is very rewarding. Family trees that span a number of counties in the UK have great appeal, those that span the world cause justified excitement.
I have compiled from my existing database details, that can be found if you follow this link, of many known emigrants and world travellers. I hope somewhere in the list will be one of your potential Whitworth ancestors but if not then connections may be at this very time being created.
