Whitworth Genealogy Homepage

Whitworth Genealogy Homepage has since 1997 been used as a gateway for Whitworth family research by researchers around the world. Each week, we receive many enquiries and using a database of more than 50,000 records can usually answer the variety of questions they ask. This we do without charge. Our database is a constantly growing resource that has benefited from generously donated records we receive from enquirers and we thank those have made donations.

"The Records of Heath in Derbyshire"

I have for some years been collecting records of the Parish of Heath in Derbyshire and have now put together a CDrom of this information for researchers to use on their own PC. I hope the sale of this CDrom will (i) help to defer the considerable expense that has been generated in both track down and processing the records, (ii) provide a donation to the funds of All Saints Church at Heath. The collection of Word files in the CDrom offers the reader easy access to the records with a seperate index being supplied for surnames and places. Indexing was a lengthy process which I hope has resulted in an accurate finding aid for researchers. If you find errors please let me know via the link heath@rww96.demon.co.uk.

The files include :

1) All records of baptisms, banns, marriages, burials as well as numerous notes regarding parish business, from 1662 to the date in 1858 when the new All Saints church was opened at Heath. By using Bishop's Transcripts it has been possible to extend the range of these records backwards beyond the date covered by parish registers.

2) The major source of probate records for the parish is the Lichfield Probate Court with a small number of wills being being proved at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. Dates of probate for wills found have been given.

3) A Poll Tax roll for the year 1671/2 is also given. This type of record is rarely seen by researchers of Derbyshire family history, as few have been transcribed in the past. These records are held at the Public Record Office in London and provide an interesting view of the major households of the village.

4) Inevitably during my research in Derbyshire, I have found marrriages of the people of Heath in parish records outside their own parish. I have made a list of some of these as they provide a useful point of identification for families who lived in the village after their marriage elsewhere.
